What is a Photo Voice?
Photo Voice is a platform for collecting information about ongoing issues through photography and captions, traditionally from underserved communities. These projects generally revolve around a specific theme/issue and encourage people to tell their stories through photographs. This technique was originally developed to help in participatory planning process by bringing out the unheard voices of a community. And as we all know,
"A PICTURE IS WORTH A THOUSAND WORDS"
Why Maquoketa River Watershed Stories?
Water penetrates deep into our lives. In numerous ways we keep on creating memories with the watershed we reside on. Maquoketa River Watershed has a large community within, among nine counties it touches. As a Watershed Management Plan is under making since Aug 2020 for the area, the planning team has provided this online platform for the communities to reflect their connection with water bodies in the Maquoketa River Watershed. You can participate in this story-telling by posting photos of your choice or by joining ongoing discussions around others' photographs. The team will use the stories to develop effective policies for watershed management. They will also be published as a section in the final planning document. This platform will be left open for months and will be used to monitor people's perception towards the watershed!
